The Rule of 144

The Rule of 144

The Rule of 144 tells an investor how long it will take for their money to quadruple in value.

Take the number 144 and divide it by the interest rate you plan to receive on your investment.  You have $5,000 invested at 9%, so it will take 16 years for your money to quadruple, earning $20,000. (144 divided by 9 = 16).

Christine’s Tip:

I know no one really likes to do math, but this is so easy, and it’s a great incentive to begin saving.  Try it yourself with your projected return on your investments and see how long it will take you to reach your retirement goals and possibly give up working sooner than you think.
