When to Consider Retirement Living
With Adrienne Routly-Houle, Chartwell Retirement Residences
Choosing to move to a retirement residence is an important decision; one that takes a lot of research, preparation, and decision-making. It marks an exciting new chapter in a senior’s life that allows them to meet new people and explore their interests in a secure and engaging environment; however, it can be challenging to feel ready to open the door to the next chapter.
Misconceptions about retirement residences persist, with some assuming they’re solely for seniors requiring care support or fearing a loss of independence and freedom. However, this is not the case. Today’s retirement residences are geared toward providing active seniors with a wide range of convenient services that enhance their freedom and independence, including delicious dining and supportive health and wellness services.
As you grow older and embrace a life of healthy aging, think of moving into a retirement residence not as the end of something but as an opportunity to embrace a vibrant new chapter of life with peace of mind. If you are wondering why moving to a retirement home is a great way to live out your retirement years or want to feel more confident in the decision-making process for yourself or a loved one, learn about the benefits of moving, the differences between aging at home vs retirement living, the positive impact on wellbeing over time and how to embrace next steps.

Your Healthy Home: How to Create a Positive Environment at Home for Healthy Aging in Place
With Sharlene Hogeterp Louden, Care Office Owner & Registered Kinesiologist at Right at Home Haldimand/Brantford
This presentation will explore practical strategies to help older adults remain in the comfort of their own homes while maintaining safety, independence, and quality of life. We will begin by looking at key factors in fall prevention, including environmental modifications, mobility support, and daily routines that reduce risk. We’ll discuss how small changes—such as improved lighting, clear pathways, and assistive devices—can make a big impact on safety.
We will also navigate the often complex world of health and home care, outlining available services, how to choose the right level of support, and ways to coordinate care between family, caregivers, and health professionals.
We will touch base on how technology can enhance functional living and independence. From medical alert systems and smart home devices to medication reminders and remote health monitoring, technology offers new opportunities for staying connected, supported, and safe.
By combining environmental safety, proactive care planning, and innovative tools, we can help older adults thrive at home for longer. This session is designed for caregivers, family members, and professionals who want practical, actionable ideas to support aging in place with dignity, comfort, and peace of mind.
